Service Opportunities (3/13/17):
1) See me if you are able to help the evening of March 21st here at PKMS- this will include giving tours to the parents of rising 6th graders Parent Program. Approximate hours would be 5:45-8:00 or so. You must have reliable transportation home!
The Greater Manassas Baseball League is looking for volunteers to help get the fields ready for opening day. Students can report to the complex with their Community Service Forms. When they complete their volunteer hours a GMBL Board member will sign off. They should check in at the Concessions area to look for a Board member and ask where help is needed on the complex.
Students should dress for the weather and be ready to work!
Here is some information:
Saturday, Mar 18, 2017 9:00a to 4:00p

3) There is an opportunity at OP on March 13th for the following (please click on the link provided to sign up) that was recently brought to my attention:
FLL Fun Day at OP on Saturday, May 13, 8am - 4pm.
Our kids participated in FLL Fun Day as elementary students, now as middle schoolers they can be the judges.
Roles for MS students are asst. judge in Core Values (teamwork) Or Robot Design (why their robot is cooler than anyone else's robot!). They can also be field resetters (which is what Sarah's doing).

Feb. 2nd, 2017- The NJHS meeting originally scheduled for February 7th has been postponed to Feb. 14th, due to the conflict with the Science Fair.
Dec. 15th, 2016:
SERVICE OPPORTUNITY- December 22nd (Thursday) here at PKMS:
You will need to be dropped off at 8am that morning and picked up at 10am. You will be wrapping Christmas presents to be given out to families in the local area. It’s ok if you’re not a great present-wrapper! Just try your best- it’s for a great cause! This is a day during winter break, so be aware that it is not a normal school day!!!!!!!!
Mr. Hixon will be the supervising adult. If it snows on Thursday, the event will likely be cancelled.
SIGN UP SHEET FOR 5 VOLUNTEERS IS OUTSIDE OF MY ROOM 606.
Dec. 6th, 2016- ATTN NJHS Members: Service Hours turned in as of Dec. 1st have been posted on this site and outside of my room. Any other forms turned in as Of Dec. 6th have been given to your VP to enter. To date, we only have a few members meeting their 10 hour requirement before Winter break! If you have hours planned over break to meet those 10 hours, you must submit the details to me IN WRITING, describing the hours you will do (where, when, description of service, how many hours)!!!
Nov. 21st, 2016- ATTN NJHS Members: Service Hours turned in as of Nov. 15th (the last NJHS meeting) have been posted below AND outside of my classroom # 606. As of that date, there are only about a half dozen members who have completed the 10 hours of service required by winter break to maintain their membership in good standing! Please make sure you have made plans to fulfill this requirement! If you have plans over winter break to do these hours, you must notify me IN WRITING with your detailed plans (what the service will be, how many hours, date of service, etc.).
Oct. 31st, 2016- ATTN NJHS Members: There is a new sign up sheet outside of my room for the canned food drive for Rachel's challenge. We did not get approval from WalMart nor Harris Teeter to set up tables for the collection, so we're on our own!!! Please sign up to collect cans from friends, neighbors, etc. I will give service hours for the time you have spent trying to collect items for Rachel's Challenge. Remember, our goal is to collect at LEAST 8581 cans (as a school) by November 18th!.
** IN ADDITION, EACH MEMBER MUST BRING AT LEAST 2 CANS OF FOOD TO THE NEXT NJHS MEETING ON NOV. 15TH!!!! YOUR NEW SECRETARY, ALEXIS KINNEY, WILL BE KEEPING TRACK OF WHO BROUGHT THESE ITEMS IN***
Attention, NJHS members: Please be sure to check the calendar for meeting dates and other important NJHS dates! Also, there is another folder that includes Service opportunities and websites you can explore for service opportunities outside of our school community!
