Congrats to you and your son for coming out and making the PARKSIDE FOOTBALL TEAM!! There are a few things I would like to cover really fast…
Expectations- I expect my players to be at practice everyday. If he will be absent, for whatever reason, I would prefer that they check in with me at some point during the day. Or, have a note/email sent to me. Players also will be held to the highest standards of behavior. I have asked them to represent themselves in a fashion where others look to them as role models. Players MUST dress out during P.E.Failure to do so will result in unexcused absence from practice/game for that day. There is a 3 STRIKE policy in place for players that have trouble following directions/rules
Eligibility- 2 F’s on Interims will result in being suspended from the team!
Emergency cards- If they are not already on file in the front office, I NEED THEM ASAP!!! Your son won’t play if I don’t have them.
Travel time for games- Must ride the bus to the game, but may be signed out to go home with you. When signed out, parent must be visible. Bus should arrive back to school around 7:00-7:30 pm depending upon traveling distance.
Eating and Fluids- Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. NO ENERGY DRINKS!!! Try to have water and bananas before games and practice.
Dress Code- Away games – Dress up (Shirt, tie, dress pants, belt). This possibly could change since all games are away
Uniforms and equipment- They are to be taken home every Friday. Wash pants and shirts in cold water, air dry. Wash/wipe down pads with Lysol.
Dear Parent/Guardian and Player,
Thanks for your support, interest and participation in the Parkside Middle School Football Program. We are looking forward to an exciting season and are committed to helping your each your potential on the team as well as in the classroom. We expect all our players to perform their best academically and to conduct themselves as gentlemen.
Practices will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:15 pm Monday thru Friday. All athletes are to be picked up at the front of the building by 5:25 pm; please make every effort to pick your athlete up on time. If your student is unable to get a ride at that time an activity bus is provided for your athlete to ride home on ONLY on TUES, WED, and THURS. Athletes must find a ride home from practice on MONDAYS and FRIDAYS!!!Cancellation of games or practices due to weather conditions will be made by 2:30 pm and the announcement will be made at the end of the day just prior to dismissal.
We expect all our athletes to be committed to our program. Failure to attend practices, improper conduct during the school day/practice/game, and transportation problems could eliminate an athlete from game participation or removal from the team. There will be a “3 Strike” policy
Tryouts will now be held on Aug 30, 31 and Sept 1. Tryouts might be extended further due to weather and/or to fit the team roster size. The following guidelines will be used to make the team selections.
1. Grades and conduct 5. Football knowledge
2. Physical conditioning 6. Decision making and awareness
3. Speed and reaction time 7. Attitude and dedication
4. Agility and strength 8. Scrimmage performance
Game participation will be determined by each player’s abilities and dedication to our program. Game conditions will be the presiding factor for player’s participation and in some instances the athlete might have to wait for the 5th quarter (scrimmage-like setting given for players that didn’t have a chance to play during regulation time.)
Uniforms are provided and it is the athlete’s responsibility to return the uniform at the end of the season. Every player must purchase a mouth guard (we have a limited stock for $1 if interested) and a pair of blue team socks (we have them available for $5). If the uniform is not returned, a replacement fee will be charged. Athletes can use their gym lock to secure their clothes and valuables in the locker room during practices and games.
The games will usually start at 4:45pm and all athletes will be required to ride the team bus to the away games. After away games, parents/guardians may take their athletes home with them, but they must be signed out before we allow them to leave. Athletes will ONLY be allowed to leave with their parents/guardians. Those returning to school on the team bus will be picked up at the front of the school and are required to be picked up within 15 minutes after returning to school.
We look forward to your support and hope to see many of our parents at the games. If you have any concerns or questions Coach Bricker can be reached at 703-361-3106.
