Ms. Caroline Young, Director of School Counseling

HI! My name is Caroline Young. This is my 6th year at Parkside and love working with middle school kids as they figure out who they are. I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad and earned my Master’s in School Counseling from William and Mary. I love the Washington Capitals, snack foods, Harry Potter, and dogs! I’m here to help so please don’t hesitate to reach out. This is going to be a great school year!


Ms. Desirae Bruce, Counseling Secretary/Registrar

Hello Parkside!  My name is Desirae Bruce and I am the registrar at Parkside Middle School.  I originally joined the Parkside team in March 2014 as a Teacher Assistant for Autism after teaching preschool for 6 years.  I accepted the registrar position in the counseling department in August 2014.  I am a former student of Parkside, and I graduated from Prince William county in June of 2008.  I am currently attending the University of Maryland University of College to complete my BA in English in hopes to teach in the near future.  


Ms. Lourdes Vega, Parent Liason

Hola! My name is Lourdes Dutch and I am Parkside's parent/school liaison. I grew up in Panamá City, Panamá and am well-versed in both the English and Spanish languages. I have approximately 17 years of experience working with parents and children of all ages. Beginning in 2005, I started teaching parents systemic techniques for effective parenting. I continue to teach these course and connect families with the school system an community, today. I look forward to working with parents and students who need assistance with interpretations, translations, or any of the daily challenges that comes during the adolescent years.


Ms. Jasmine Barbour, A-C

My name is Ms. Barbour. This will be my first year as a School Counselor and I am super excited to get to know everyone. I recently graduated for George Mason University with my Masters and Prior to Parkside, I worked as an Early Childhood Educator. I believe middle school is a pivotal time in development and I hope to play a role in the academic and personal growth of students. This summer I had the opportunity to expand my travels and work towards my goal of visiting all 50 states. I’m looking forward to an exciting year!

Mr. Clifton Gorham, D-K

I am Mr. G, your Parkside school counselor and basketball coach! I have been at Parkside for 8 years. I am most importantly, a father of 4 amazing kids. I love all kids and always strive to be happy. I am looking forward to this school year here at Parkside!


Ms. Makayla Hager, L-P

Hello! My name is Ms. Makayla Hager and I am brand new to Parkside! I recently graduated from Old Dominion University and moved up from Virginia Beach. I believe in being an advocate for all students and working with teachers, parents, admin, and community leaders to ensure that students are taken care of! I love going to the beach, baking, hanging out with my two cats and painting! I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you!


Ms. Shannon DiMisa, Q-Z

Hello and welcome to our Parkside Panther Family! My name is Shannon DiMisa and I am a native of Prince William County and a graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Education in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. I have been working in the Counseling field for approximately 20 years, and this is my 6th year at Parkside Middle. My goal is to provide the best possible care and assistance to the PKMS students and families. I am very proud and honored to be a School Counselor here at PKMS and looking forward to an amazing year!


Mrs. Yung Hae Kim, School Social Worker

Hello!  My name is Yung Hae Kim, and I am the school social worker at Parkside Middle.  I have worked in a variety of Prince William County schools over the past 20 years, but Parkside has been my one consistent home!  I received my Bachelor's degree in finance from Virginia Tech and went on to earn my Masters of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.  After graduating from Tech, I volunteered for VISTA/AmeriCorps for one year in Arizona.  I have a son in 10th grade and a daughter in 8th grade, and on the weekends you will find me on the baseball and softball field cheering them on!  Middle school students are my favorite age group to work with and I look forward to continuing my work with your students.
