Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts!

Dear Students and Parent/Guardians,

Parkside Middle School will begin a transition to Canvas, a student learning management system, beginning on Monday, May 4th.  Canvas will allow students to access each of their unique set of classes and find their course content in one location.  Canvas Student Apps can be downloaded by clicking the following links: download for Apple, download for Android.  Parent and student resources, as well as direct links to the Canvas webpage, can be found on the PWCS Instructional Technology page by clicking here.  While we at Parkside are excited about using Canvas, we understand that it will be a learning process for teachers, students, and families.  We are here to help and excited to learn and grow together!

Parkside Middle School Staff

Prince William County Schools will be moving to a new virtual learning system called Canvas. You can find everything you need to be a successful Parkside Panther there!

Here's how it works...

1. When it is time to do school work, you will head to office365.pwcs.edu using Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser. Make sure you are signed in with your full email address and your correct password.
2. Once you sign in you will click on the waffle. Silly name isn't it? It looks like this Waffle.
3. Then click on the Canvas button. It looks like this Waffle. You will find all your classes in one place! Cool, huh?
4. To do work for Mrs. Shirey's Language Arts class, make sure you click on Dashboard. It looks like this Dashboard.
5. Then, find our class. It will look like something like this Extended or this General.
6. Next, click on Modules. It looks like this Modules.
7. Finally, take a look at this week's module. Always start with the Video and Choice Board. Then start working!

If you have any questions while you are working, please email me and I'd be happy to help!
