7th and 8th graders are in the middle of Shark Tank/Think Tank unit. They have formed companies and have competed several different jobs. They have negotiated the best way to save a U.S. diplomat from a hostage crisis; they have planned a birthday party with a minimal budget; and soon they are going to retell a fable from the evil character’s point of view. All companies will ultimately present a product they have created that either improves upon an existing product or is new and ready for public consumption. They will present their product (a la Shark Tank) to guest sharks who will critique their product, offer suggestions and awards points towards the Gifted Challenges during the week before break in December.

6th grade students are being introduced to the 4 skills of creativity. They are Fluency, flexibility, elaboration and originality. http://www.creativitycards.net/flexibility-fluency-originality.html

These skills will be used to create their own civilization. Students must develop a back story that explains how the civilization came to be, make 8 artifacts that represent 8 of the culture universals (see the rubric) and be able to explain the other universals during presentation. Civilizations will should be enclosed in a time capsule( an appropriately decorated box) and ready to be presented to peers during the week before December break.
