Hello Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. I am asking you to become a partner with me in your child’s education. I will only have your child for a short time so I want to make a contribution that will last a lifetime. I know my teaching must begin with making students feel at home in the classroom and helping all the students come together into a learning environment. This learning environment is made up of unique individuals, each with his or her own learning style, interest, history, hopes, and dreams.
Back to school night is on September 22, 2016. This year all grade levels will participate on September 22nd. Please share your preferences to facilitate setting up conference times. The goal is to give each parent fifteen minutes of individualized attention. The strategy will support sharing the structure of the classroom and give time to share the academic progress of your child. I will send a form home with child at the end of the first week of school.
Homework Policy: Throughout the school year your child may have homework. Please check their agenda to find out if and when they have homework. Every week the students will be given a spelling word list. On Thursdays (if there is a holiday the pre-test will be Friday) the students will be given an opportunity to take a Pre-test. If the student gets an A for the week they do not have to take the test on Friday.
I encourage you to have your child read independently for ten minutes every night.
Important things to know:
Our school IEP /Sign-off/Eligibility meetings will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week. If you are unable to attend those days, please let me know so we can make arrangements to fit your schedule.

The first week of school is complete. Next week your child will be starting VAAP and getting their first spelling list for the school year. Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday (9/5/16). Have a great Labor Day weekend!
This week our class is focusing on 6M-MG 1 B: The student will identify common three-dimensional shapes. During our language arts block we are working on writing a friendly letter and sending the letter to someone who sponsored us this school year with a magazine. We continue to work on our Cambridge vocabulary.
Just a reminder that next week is back to school. Thank you for scheduling a time to have a conference with me. I look forward to talking about your child's progress and what we are going to accomplish this school year.
Just a reminder that this Thursday is Back to School Night for Parkside! I want to thank everyone for selecting a fifteen conference time. Please make sure you arrive five minutes before your conference. I will have seating located outside of my classroom. I look forward to meeting everyone again!
I want to thank everyone who attended Back to School Night last Thursday!
I loved hearing your ideas on what you want your child to focus on for
this school year. Most of all I would like to thank you for all of your
support! I enjoyed showing you the progress that you child has made so far
this school year. If you have any concerns about your child you can reach
me by email or call the school. My planning period is 9:11-10:40 unless I have
meetings scheduled. Please continue to check your child's agenda every night.
On Tuesday you should have received your child's IEP progress report as well as their interim for the first nine weeks. Please send back the cover of the interim with your signature verifying that you received the IEP progress report and the interim. If you lost one or both of the items, please contact me and I will send another copy home with your child.
Just a reminder that International Night will be held tomorrow. Thank you for responding to whether you would like a parent teacher conference on November 7th. If you have requested a phone conference with me, please remember that conferences are only to be for about ten minutes. Please continue to check your child's agenda every night.
Just a reminder that your child will not have school on Friday, November 4th- Tuesday, November 8th. We will return to school on Wednesday, November 9th.
Please check your child's agenda over this long weekend. We are off tomorrow for Veterans Day!
I want to thank you for your patience the past couple of weeks as I attended trainings. We are now back and ready to tie up lose ends of our state assessment before going on Thanksgiving Break. Have a safe holiday.
Soon interims for the second grading period will be coming out. I have sent some materials home for students to catch up on work that they have missed. Please check their agenda's and backpacks. For the next couple of weeks we will be focused on the Scientific Method. Next week we will be doing our first science experiment.
We are currently near the end of our VAAP Assessments for this school year(three more objectives to go). The students have been working really hard since August.
A friendly reminder that on January 20th we are off!
Hello Parents and Guardians,
We are in the home stretch of finishing the VAAP's. Pretty soon the 2016-2017 school year will be ending. I will be scheduling IEP meeting with parents to determine placement for the 2017-2018 school year.
Students that will be transitioning to high school next year will fill out a scheduling form with just the student’s electives. All of the other subjects will be scheduled based on your child's current IEP.
Field trip forms for Special Olympics are due March 22,2017.
Tomorrow is our field trip to Manassas Park for Special Olympics. If you are packing a lunch for your child, please be mindful that we do not have a place to keep items cold.
