Week of March 27 - This week, students will focus on main idea, supporting details, and summarizing. Students will spend some time working on their state or country reports as well.
Week of March 20 - Book Fair in the library this week; each class will have a brief visit, and the opportunity to return and purchase books or other items later in the week. There are many exciting books from which to choose!
Week of March 6 - Due to the 8th grade writing SOL test, there will be no library visit this week. On Monday, the 8th grade LA class will begin their country projects. On Friday, the 7th grade LA class will begin their state projects.
Week of February 27 - Last week, students chose their topic for a project they will be completing next month. 7th grade students will be researching a US state. 8th graders will be researching a country.
Week of February 20 - We are continuing to read and analyze informational text.
Week of January 30 - I hope everyone enjoyed the three-day weekend. This week, we will focus on identifying text structures, and describing how they help readers to better understand what they are reading.
Week of January 23 - We have a five-day week this week! It is also the last week of the second marking period. Library visits this Wednesday!
Week of January 2 - Happy New Year!
Soon you will receive the date and time that you will be taking the WIDA ACCESS test (the annual English language proficiency test). Please be prepared to do your best!
Week of November 28- We will be learning about character traits and character development this week. Classes will also visit the Book Fair in the library.
Week of November 14 - Last week we began learning about different genres and subgenres. We will continue to identify the genre of everything we read. Library visits this Wednesday!
Week of October 31 - The first marking period will end on November 3. No school for students on November 4, November 7, and November 8.
Week of October 24 - This week we will work on improving the quality of independent reading responses, as well as continue identifying and describing narrative elements.
Week of October 17 - Library visits this Wednesday! We will continue to practice identifying narrative elements of the stories we are reading.
Week of October 11 - I hope everyone enjoyed your three-day weekend! This week we continue working on the narrative elements with the books and stories that we are reading, focusing on plot structure.
Week of October 3 - Both classes have been studying narrative elements. This week students are using a plot diagram to identify and sequence the elements of plot structure.
