We are working on our concert music and continuing our vocabulary focus with Cambridge words and music theory. The sight reading is being worked on each class. It will be part of their grade very soon so they are being encouraged to particpate while we work on it.
We are continuing to build on our music theory skills and Cambridge vocabulary words knowledge.
Every class we work on correct singing posture(no squishing the diaphragm), proper breath support, articulation of consonances, and pure vowel sound. They know what their hinge and "ah" placement is supposed to be for a good, fully engaged sound. They are learning some fun warm-ups, their concert music and working hard every day!

What a fast 1st week of school!
I hope your child had a great first week and they will remember their schedules. :)
In chorus class, they will need a pencil and :
6th grade- a blue 2 pocket folder
7th grade - a green 2 pocket folder
8th grade- a red 2 pocket folder
Please use the class grades color. This helps us all stay organized, especially if the folder is misplaced.
We will do music theory work throughout the year and journal on Fridays. We will also work on our music vocabulary and the Cambridge vocabulary.
Please remember to sing in the shower. It's great for your vocal chords and lungs! :) Happy Singing. Mrs. Schlechte :)
Welcome to the best school in Prince William County, Parkside!
I am so glad to have your child in my chorus class this year. They will be learning a lot about music and about themselves. We will strive together to make the most of every minute and hopefully have fun doing it. My lessons will help them achieve professional musicianship skills to include vocal production and sight-reading. They will also learn and practice vocabulary words and strategies so they become a confident, well-rounded learner. I want to get the very best from your students!
Parkside has done very well at competition winning the overall champion 3 years in a row, and 6 out of the last 12 years! Parkside is also well represented at all of the county, district and state honors choirs. It all starts with being focused, engaged and enthusiastic learners in the classroom , every day.
I look forward to meeting you and seeing you at our concerts this year. Thank you for investing in your child's learning and their music education.
Debbie Schlechte :)
