This week we will begin reading The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. We will be focusing on the academic vocabulary terms vignette, theme, mood, tone, character, and conflict. We will be reading multiple vignettes, writing our own vignettes, and analyzing the literature for theme, mood, tone, and character traits.
Students were also introduced to March's vocabulary terms (roots, affixes, vocabulary, and commonly confused words). The March vocabulary assessment will be on Tuesday, April 4th.
Students will be assessed on their knowledge of literary terms (protagonist, antagonist, setting, conflict, theme, mood, tone, and characters) on Thursday, March 30th.
This week we will begin our poetry unit. We will begin by students presenting their PowerPoint presentations they created after researching assigned poets. We will also review our figurative language terms, as well we symbolism, in order to prepare for the required analysis of poetry in this unit. In addition to beginning our poetry unit, we will also introduce the vocabulary for the month of March. The quiz on these vocabulary terms will be on Tuesday, April 4th.
Students will be assessed on their knowledge of poetic terms (simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, imagery, allusion, and symbolism). Students will be assessed on these terms as well as their application to assigned poems.
