This is my fourth year teaching Language Arts at Parkside Middle School! I grew up in New York state and received my degree from Binghamton University, in Upstate NY. I have lived in the Northern Virginia area since 1998 and share my home with my husband, Sean, two daughters, Madeleine and Sophia, and two Irish Setters, Dealer and Tessa. Teaching is a second career for me. I worked for fifteen years as a Regional Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Wall Street firms like American Skandia (now Prudential) and MetLife. When I had my own children, I became fascinated with how kids learn and grow, and wanted to be a part of an profession that could lead children through this amazing, inspiring, exciting world of EDUCATION!
Students will be expected to read independently and prepare for assessments on the skills we are covering in class (this includes quizzes and tests on Academic Vocabulary). We will also we using "NoRedInk" to complete grammar lessons online.
Parkside Middle School will follow standards based grading, ensuring that all students are assessed solely on their academic ability for all classes during the 2015/2016 school year. Grades will be entered into the grade book using targets and summative (tests, quizzes, and projects) only. Any grade below 70% will immediately require a retake. Failure is not an option--we must prepare for success!
